I have been reading this book about how to fill your home with meaningful traditions. So this morning we made hot cross buns (I think this is the third year I have managed this) and we came home after church and had a real meal, prepared by me, with some help from the kids. This is a big deal for me. Food is fuel, and not delight. But I want to be different! I hope I can continue in joy.
Helena frosted the buns while the other two were out with Daddy riding their skateboards. The frosting, as usual, was too runny, and the buns a smidge too hot, so the crosses were more Van Gogh than Caravaggio.
I realize that Harper looks really tall in these pictures. It is because she is wearing her first pair of high heels!!! And because she is my daughter, they are actually Dansko clogs, because that is about as fancy and high-heelish as I get:
Helena can't wait for the day when she too can wear such grown up lady fanciness. She was thrilled with her beautiful new dress from Grandmother Pate, which invited swirling and twirling and just the tiniest bit of vanity.

1. I am so pleased you still blog.
2. Mad props for making buns and lunch. Are you reading Sally Clarkson's new book. She annoyed me a few years ago and I haven't read anything of hers since but I hear her newest is excellent.
3. Merris wore a pair of 9w white stride rite Mary Janes today that I'm afraid Helena probably wore as a 5 year old. She saw them for the first time this morning and called them her favorite shoes. she was also very excited to see that her socks had "tutus" on them. All this AND the resurrection. It was a good day.
4. I miss you.
1. I can't quit it! And my pictures aren't good enough for Instagram.
2. Yes!! Sally C. Is definitely not my usual cup of tea (perhaps because she does things like refer to a cup of tea as "warm liquid gold" etc.) and this is the first book I have tried. I had just finished The Glass Castle and I needed a palate cleanse.
3. I was trying to clean out Helena's closet yesterday and we have quite a pile started for "baby Merris."
4. I miss you too!!
