puppy boy

Hudson turned one on Sunday and to celebrate, he cried for 3 nights straight. Perhaps he has inherited my aversion to birthdays and reasoned that if he could just cry hard enough, he could stop the world from spinning on its axis and it would never have to be January 27. Here are some slightly more endearing attributes of the Bird Dog at his first anniversary:

*he likes to sit on his knees when he's playing and his little feet are tucked in under his bottom and it is extremely cute
*he likes the "d" sound and can say "daa-daa" and "door" with convincing regularity and in context to make us think he might know what he is saying
*when he hears music he holds his left arm straight down by his hip and makes little circles with his hand flexed up. This fancy move is accompanied by fairly deep knee bends and an occasional bottom shake
*when he meets someone new he squishes his head down into his shoulders and buries his face in my neck while peeking sidelong. He's like a turtle with no shell to hide in
*the kid LOVES his dad
*he weighs in at around 18 pounds which means he's a welter weight. Or is it bantam?
*he wrinkles up his nose, closes his eyes and gets a huge grin when he feels the wind on his face

He has awakened from his nap so the tribute must end. I think all of the praise woke him up. He'd prefer if we'd all just focus our attention elsewhere, please.

Hmm, makes him about 4 months younger than Sarah. But say, is he sleeping through the night? We're still working through that little bitty problem. Hope YOU'RE getting more sleep...Happy Birthday Hudson!

Yes, Shane, I have to agree that he really is a great kid. No, Margie, he does not sleep through the night. In fact I woke up the morning of his birthday and said to my husband, "It has been three hundred and sixty five days since I had a good night's sleep. How about that?" We have tried EVERYTHING (except drugs and/or whiskey--and don't think we haven't been tempted)and, while we've had a night or two when things have gone well, we haven't had lasting success. In fact,we've just this week instituted a boot camp of sorts. I've been feeding him more during the day and not at all during the night. He is resisting this tactic. Last night, he cried from, I think, 1:30am-4am. We've started taking turns sleeping on the couch so at least one of us doesn't have to be right by the screaming. So, that's fun for us.
